Who needs a water break?

In one game emblematic of the issue in my Franchise with the Titans, Derrick Henry rushed for 85 yards on just six carries, but strangely spent the whole second half exhausted, leading to him sitting out automatically at times and fumbling when he was playing. This is a new wrinkle, and it seems like something Tiburon can tweak, so hopefully this is an August problem and not a November or even September problem.

How do you get staff points in RPG?

Achieving goals in weekly matchups will earn staff points that can be distributed however players see fit. Just like in an RPG, players will find themselves creating custom builds for their coaches. A power run-heavy team may want to focus on improving their OC's ability to coach up pulling guards and protect the football, whereas a west coast offense would be better-suited improving QB protection and receivers' route-running and agility. Each skill tree is presented in branches and going down one branch will shut out its opposite branch, so smart, future-focused decisions are made every single in-game week.

Is Madden 22 the same as the previous year?

Beyond Franchise, Madden 22 returns the same eclectic suite of modes as last year's game, usually with some appreciable differences, such as more cosmetic rewards in The Yard, a new half-decent story in Face of the Franchise with a new linebacker option, and the everpresent upward ramp of slightly better visuals, commentary, and presentation than the year before. In each case, the changes all feel peripheral to Franchise's focused fixes.

Does Madden 22 work?

Madden 22 goes for broke on improving Franchise mode after years on the backburner, and it mostly works, even as it comes at the expense of most other modes in a pandemic-struck year.

Is Madden 22 all in?

Madden NFL 22 is the first iteration in years to go all-in on the community's most popular mode. While we can dissect the remarkability of that sentence another day, the truth remains that Franchise fans finally have something to get excited for this season. Coaching skill trees, metrics-driven presentation, and streamlined training give players a deeper sense of ownership. While other modes have few new layers to get excited for, and the story engine and stamina system will need tweaks in the weeks ahead, the core improvements to what has always been the diehards' preferred mode should be seen as commendable, albeit delayed, fan service.

Is Madden live service?

Even the first major content update in September will deepen the college scouting system for virtual team owners, reassuring Franchise fans that Madden in the live-service era means the game's launch is not a one-off tip of the hat to the game's most-played but historically features-deprived mode.

Is franchise the best?

The exciting thing is that now Franchise will enjoy a similar rollout of content, but even on day one, Franchise is the best it's been in years. It starts with the new coaching management system. Every Franchise player will have direct control over their head coach, offensive and defensive coordinators, as well as the player personnel department. This extends from basic hiring and firing decisions to the much more interesting skill trees making their debut.

How does the draft process work in Madden?

The draft process is similar to what we’ve seen in the past. Your player will be put through a series of pre-draft interviews where you are given three generic choices to respond with. However, unlike in the past, I don’t know that these responses have a big impact on the story. Nevertheless, it seems like for the first time in Madden ‘s single-player story mode history it feels like the developers did a good job of bringing the pre-draft process to life, even if it wasn’t a flawless performance.

What are the weaknesses of Madden?

One of the primary flaws being that the defense is at a significant disadvantage. Way too many times the opposing quarterbacks mimic Patrick Mahomes or Dan Marino. They go near perfect, with their lone incompletion being some ridiculous overthrow that never had a chance. The imperfections with Madden will probably never go away, but I’ll stop there and simply point to Bob’s review here for a deeper discussion about the general defensive issues.

What positions are there in Madden?

First, players have the option of playing one of four different positions: quarterback, running back, wide receiver, and linebacker.

Is CFM unplayable in FotF?

Is the writing of this mode cringe?

The scenarios are ridiculous and I feel completely disconnected from who I am supposed to be. Whether it's what he says, how he says it, the decisions I'm faced with, etc. At no point do I ever really feel engaged.

Did Path to the Draft have cutscenes?

Lastly, I thought EA did a nice job with the different presentation elements in Path to the Draft. Now, yes, there were cutscenes and similar scenarios in EA’s previous games. But this year, the cutscenes felt more natural. They made sense and better told the story through simple cutscenes with your teammates, an interview in front of the media, or an appearance on a local podcast. EA tries its best to give gamers a solid experience. And while some of the previous game modes had similar interactions, United We Stand does it better than its predecessors.

Does the NFL have holdouts?

The NFL and NFLPA also effectively did away with holdouts in the most recent collective bargaining agreement. The fines issued to a player withholding services from a club are draconian and excessive, the CBA requires teams enforce those fines on players with unexcused absences, and the CBA prevents clubs from rescinding those fines. Players on rookie contracts also are entirely barred from negotiating contract extension until after they accrue three years of league service, if I recall correctly.

Is it hard to program holdouts?

Holdouts would be really hard to program in a realistic way, kind of like what we’ve seen with these random retirements. Almost feels scripted and I believe holdouts would be the same way.

Is OL in the high 70s?

Meanwhile OL in the league are all high 70s and low 80s compared to high 90s pass rushers all over, and they are stuck with no way to improve. I have no idea why they think everyone improves in a single game except OL but I'd love to know there is at least better balance. We had a long standing online league and this issue broke it.

Should we get sliders in our own leagues?

If they aren 't going to test this stuff, we should get sliders in our own leagues to fix what would be an easy problem.

Is the Bugs franchise a step in the right direction?

It is a step in the right direction and I can see myself really enjoying franchise this year once the bugs get ironed out.

Is practice injury nice?

Practice injuries are nice. But I would like to see random length of injuries from it, not just one game.

Is there still a reason to be optimistic about scouting?

If you’re disappointed to find that the methods used to scout draft prospects coming out of college are the same old tired ones that we’ve now grown accustomed to for years now, there’s still reason for optimism because a new and improved way of scouting is expected to be coming soon courtesy of a patch. It’s naturally not exactly ideal for franchises to deal with the existing framework until this new method is ready to be unveiled, but at least we know what we have now is merely temporary.

Is Madden worth buying?

Madden 22 made a lot of improvements, but still isn't where fans would like it to be. The good news is it appears EA Sports is trying to listen to fans and improve the long-forgotten franchise mode. We didn't expect a complete overhaul in just a year (especially with EA's focus on building next-gen), so the changes we did get are nice.

What is the yard in Madden 20?

The Yard and Superstar KO are two new game modes added to Madden in recent years. Superstar KO was introduced late in Madden 20, and The Yard was introduced in Madden 21. Both are fun modes to play when you don't want to grind hours in MUT or franchise mode. They're simple, arcade-style modes that provide something different.

Is MUT a year round game?

It's hard to fully review MUT at the start of the year because so much changes as the game goes on. MUT is truly a year-round game mode with constant updates throughout the year, so it's a little unfair to give it a full review right now.

Does EA Sports make changes to Madden 22?

But as you continue to play, you get more used to the changes. And EA Sports made a big improvement with its gameplay in Madden 22.

Does EA Sports have franchise mode?

As for franchise mode in general, most fans want EA Sports to go back to the old days where there was a lot more customization. You used to be able to create your own team, your own stadium, your own playbook, etc. But EA Sports started to slowly strip away all of those features and never put them back in. Imagine if EA Sports decided to build on these features throughout the years rather than just get rid of them all together.

8 Los Angeles Chargers

It may feel low for a team with a pure superstar talent on both sides of the ball, but the Los Angeles Chargers still have plenty of holes that make them lesser than the other teams on the list. Justin Herbert seems primed to be the next great young quarterback and is surrounded by great weapons.

7 Green Bay Packers

The reality of the 2021 NFL season is that it might be the last time we see Aaron Rodgers in a Green Bay Packers uniform and/or throwing to Davante Adams. Each of those is reason enough to give this squad one more run in franchise mode.

6 Dallas Cowboys

Most people dislike the Dallas Cowboys, for one reason or another. The truth is, no matter where you fall on that concept, it's hard to deny how explosive and talented their offense is. Both quarterback Dak Prescott and running back Ezekiel Elliott are now surrounded by immense wide receiver talent.

5 Chicago Bears

When you selected the Chicago Bears in previous editions of Madden, you'd know you were getting a stellar defense, but would have to work around the offensive shortcomings. Though the former is still true, the latter is different this time around.

4 San Francisco 49ers

The reason the San Francisco 49ers get the edge over the Chicago Bears simply comes down to their offensive weapons and defensive studs being younger than their Chicago counterparts. Trey Lance, the rookie quarterback, may not be throwing to wideouts that aren't as good as Allen Robinson right now, but he'll have them for plenty of years.

3 Los Angeles Rams

If you were to just look at the Los Angeles Rams defense you could make a case for choosing them in franchise mode. They have the highest overall player in Madden 22 in defensive tackle Aaron Donald and the game's highest overall cornerback in Jalen Ramsey, both sporting 99 overall ratings.

2 Buffalo Bills

Now, the Buffalo Bills may be coming in as the second-best team to use in Madden 22's franchise mode, but they're closer to a 1B than a 2. Josh Allen is a dual-threat quarterback with a cannon of an arm and all the talent in the world.

Why do you have cutscenes with press conferences?

The cutscenes with press conferences are a nice start when it comes to adding an organic narrative to your franchise experience. Tying them into weekly goals was smart as it keeps them from becoming sequences players simply button through.

Why do quarterbacks play like themselves?

The quarterbacks play a lot more like themselves as it pertains to pocket tendencies, which gives you the feeling of playing against different offensive leaders.

What is the biggest issue in Cover 2?

The biggest gameplay issue is the play of defensive backs set to patrol deep zones. Quite simply, if you’re trying to play Cover-2, and you’re expecting to control the middle linebacker, because you think you’ve got safety help over the top, you’re probably going to get toasted.

Is Madden 22 better than Madden 21?

Madden 22 is a significantly better game than Madden 21. The gameplay is smoother, franchise mode has more layers and MUT will remain a powerhouse. However, while each of the three areas deliver on one had, they each have a drawback. Also, modes like Face of the Franchise and The Yard fail to deliver in a way that moves the needle. The good outweighs the bad overall, and you’ll likely enjoy Madden if you’re a fan of the series. Still, it feels like we’re one year shy of delivering the kind of complete Madden release that really breaks new ground for the series.
